Cincy 17.08

Hot in Cincy last night, and you could clearly see the players beeing affected. No impressive display by any player really. The thermometer showed well over 100F on the court, factor in the humidity and you got yourself a sauna. Even so, Roddick found a way to lose in straight sets to David Ferrer. The defending champion was close in breaking through and taking the first set, but chocked up with some inexcusable unforced errors.

Roddick is probably the only American mentioned as a possible champion at US open, but now Blake and Querrey have made the QF and maybe they can continue this run into the Open less than two weeks away. Unfortunately for them, one of them stays and one goes. Fortunately for the Americans fans, they will have one of them in the semis.

Another surprise is Almagro, who took down Nieminen 6-2, 6-2. I mean, both players are competent on clay and faster hard courts, but Nieminen has a game that suits this type of surface much better, so maybe the finn didn’t quite cope with the heat.

So the questions is; who’s gonna give Federer a hard time in the finals? Blake, Davydenko, Ferrer??
